Still Life: Wish Granted

Now that I've gotten that out of my system...

That's reminds me of my favorite childhood Christmas memories. There was never money for a lot of presents.... but mom always made a huge batch of sugar cookies and we'd cut and ice to our hearts content. Staying warm by the oven....makes me want to pull out the old rolling pin and make some memories with Gabe.... think I'll go do that. Off to make some holiday memories.........

When I was 10 or so my grandparents stopped by during my birthday slumber party to give me my present. My family always made pressed spritz cookies for Christmas and since my birthday is so close to the holiday my grandparents' gift was a new cookie press. When I opened it I was absolutely delighted (and thankful), but all of my friends made fun of it relentlessly. I was so upset that I almost had my parents send them all home! I've lost touch with most of the friends that were at that slumber party but I still remember the gift and the fond memories of pressing cookies!

I do love baking cookies. I do it with mom and the kids every year, and there's just something about the frenzy of passing sparkles and dying sugar and having that first bite of something warm, something created by you. Good thing I gave them all away yesterday--to students and the yoga studio! I do, though, already miss them. Such is life...
