Home Sick, Day 4
Also known as that Monday when it kept raining and friends brought by trashy magazines and daffodils and juice which we took through the mail slot; the day of the aspirator and the thermometer; the day the bird's cry was heartbreakingly weak because her throat was so sore; the day I tried to bag up my maternity clothes but instead left them in sheepish piles all over the house; the day I wrapped a hot dog in a paper towel, microwaved it for thirty seconds and called it lunch; the day the bird couldn't eat because she couldn't breathe; the day we cried, read poems, put away the poems and went back to the trashy magazines; the day of pale skin and Kleenexes and little eyedroppers of infant Tylenol; the day with all its mama-loves-her-little-bird songs and rain-rain-go-away songs and mama-promises-May-will-come-soon-and-bring-jillions-of--pink-blooms songs, all its feel-better and sleep-now and I'm-sorry songs, song after song keeping time with the beat of the rain.

oh woe! you poor dears. do you need anything else? i hope the breathing gets easier and the swallowing too. we are sending love, the bunny and I.
One can only surmise that this may or may not have occurred as a result of your trip to North Carolina last week. If indeed there was a certain germ of some sort that may have been carried by a loved one, he or she would probably have preferred undergoing waterboard torture rather than to spread his or her germs to his or her loved ones, especially his or her beautiful and innocent granddaughter, niece, cousin, or whatever relation he or she may have had to the innocent little Bird. I have no personal knowledge of this alleged perpetrator and spreader of germs, but I feel like he or she would be truly sorry and would gladly take back any germs that may have caused half of North Carolina and a good portion of Brooklyn to be sniffly or even worse, if there were some sort of magic germ vacuum cleaner, but alas, he or she probably Googled it and could find no quick cures. I am sure I speak for him or her when I say I hope that everyone feels better soon.
hope she feels better soon. there is nothing harder than a sick baby. (well, I am sure there are, but that is a toughie.)
Hang in there!
Are there any MD's in Nueva Yorka?? Maybe you could get a mother/daughter discount. If not, I know of at least one MD in the Indian Territory whose rates are not bad for telephone medical advice. It is rumored that she may also have personal experience in the germ ladden state of the National Champions, which could come in handy in the diagnosis and cure of your collective ailments. Maybe worth a call unless she has started using one of those 1-800 numbers that charge by the minute.
the sun is out today! hope eva is on the mend!!
:( So sorry you've both been so under the weather. :(
